The Development Partner Institute [DPI] is delighted to announce that they have expanded the Board of Directors and appointed Mark Cutifani as a Non-executive Director, effective immediately.

Mark is a passionate advocate for the mining and materials industry and its role in society, bringing more than 40 years of global experience across the sector.

He recently stepped down from his role as CEO of Anglo American. He led a successful period of transformative change for Anglo American where he was Chief Executive for nine years. Mark has also held the roles of non-executive director of Anglo American Platinum Limited, Chairman of Anglo American South Africa, and Chairman of De Beers plc. He has also been CEO at Anglo Gold Ashanti.

Mark is a Non-executive Director at Total Energy and he was recently appointed to the Laing O’Rourke Board as a Senior Independent Director. He is also Chair of The Global Foundation’s International Advisory Board.

He holds a degree in Mining Engineering (with honours) from the University of Wollongong in Australia. He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining in the United Kingdom.

Mr Cutifani has received honorary doctorates from the University of Wollongong in Australia and Laurentian University in Canada.

Mark is a co-founder of the Development Partner Institute.

Peter Bryant, co-founder and Chair of the Development Partner Institute welcomed Mark’s appointment:

“It is an honour to have our DPI co-founder join our Board at such an exciting time for the Development Partner Institute.

“Mark’s leadership in the sector and his passion for creating new approaches to mining, responsible production, and development partnership mean he brings a great deal of insight and wisdom to our already strong Board.”

Mark said of his appointment: “It is both a pleasure and a privilege to renew my relationship with Peter and Wendy and the DPI team.

“Engaging all industry stakeholders and interested parties in discussions around how we collaborate to create a modern and ‘fit for purpose’ metals and minerals industry aligns with a conversation around how we create a better world.

“The DPI experience with building relationships with industry protagonists is helping us create a new space and dialogue. This is based on mutual respect, understanding and sensitivity to how we resolve differences in a way that benefits broader society.

“It helps ensure our industry is making a significant contribution to creating a sustainable world.”

Wendy Tyrrell, Executive Director, also welcomed Mark’s appointment:

“We welcome Mark’s openness and his collaborative style. His strategic approach will add great value as we deepen our engagement with the minerals sector and the minerals value chain.

“Mark’s expertise across key minerals, metals, and precious gems is appreciated. We respect Mark’s deep commitment to collaborative and partnership approaches, which are vital to tackling the many challenges and opportunities presented, including for the energy transition’s thirst for key minerals such as copper.

“Mark’s input will be hugely significant as we plan the next phase of growth and expansion. As our organisation continues to evolve over the next few years, Mark’s contribution will be key to our success and meeting our objectives.”
