The Development Partner Institute and Colorado School of Mines are excited to announce a new partnership that will open the door to collaboration between industry authorities and the next generation of experts.
The partnership will be underpinned by shared goals which will enhance the collaborative process. These include:
- Aligning the partnership to current programs, with a particular focus on value chain transparency
- Adding value to DPI’s global partners and new partners
- Developing a joint set of programs focused on students
- Identifying projects based on mining community involvement
- Creating systems and metrics to unlock the “dialogue to action” mechanism
- Improving the narrative around the mining industry
Peter Bryant, Board Chair and Development Partner Institute (DPI) Co-Founder, fully endorses the new partnership, calling it an educational opportunity. “This is a landmark partnership for DPI, being our first with an educational institution. Both parties will be able to take significant learnings from one another to work towards our shared interest in making positive change and creating a prosperous future.”
A public R-1 research university focused on applied science and engineering, Mines prides itself in being a community of entrepreneurial thinkers who revel in the process of solving problems together and shaping the future. These same values are represented in the three pillars of DPI’s Development Partner Framework: realizing a shared purpose, maintaining flourishing ecosystems, and keeping communities, companies and countries competitive.
“We are thrilled to be entering into a partnership with DPI,” said John Bradford, vice president for global initiatives at Colorado School of Mines. “With so many aligned values and goals I believe together we can make a real difference. We hope through this partnership, to further enhance the education and experiences our students are exposed to and get them involved in the future planning of the mining industry.”
DPI Executive Director Florence Drummond is excited about the direction that this partnership will take. “Colorado School of Mines brings an extensive and internationally recognized expertise to the table which will only assist DPI’s missions. Through this partnership we can add value to current and future programs and build relationships across academia. We hope to create situations where industry and students can collaborate on research and other professional development opportunities.”
The Development Partner Institute is particularly interested to see how this partnership amplifies current programs such as the Mining Innovation and Research Battlefield. The purpose of the Battlefield is to engage young people, students, researchers and academia to collaborate and solve existing and future sustainability problems.
Additionally, Mines’ Innov8x Program will add additional opportunities for collaboration with students. The focus of Innov8x is to enable students to develop the skills to solve important problems – in the community, in their company, or in government – and apply their exceptional engineering and technical skills to develop innovative solutions.
